Your carpet is a major focal point of your décor and is part of the first impression someone has when they enter your business. Those tell-tale dark marks left on high traffic areas such as hallways can really take away the appeal of even the most well-maintained offices. An annual professional carpet steam cleaning provides a deep cleaning that will help remove everything from odours to dust mites even from carpets that appear clean on the surface!

Carpet Steam Cleaning

Home Steam Cleaners vs. Professional

Many people think a quick vacuum or home steam cleaning will do the same job as a professional steam cleaning. However, products designed for home use do not reach the extremely high temperatures used by professionals. Professional steam cleaners use water as hot as 200 degrees, which creates a steam vapour that not only extracts the dirt from your carpet but also the grease and oil build-up.

It is important to remove all the oil and grease from your carpet as they act as a magnet for dirt, hair, and even dust mites. The high temperatures work together with safe, professional grade detergents to effectively dissolve the adhesive bond formed by greasy build-up. This allows the steam cleaner to completely remove all the dirt and build-up with far more effective results than a home steam cleaner. As well by removing the greasy build-up, your carpet will remain cleaner for longer.

Home steam cleaners also tend to leave residue from your detergent, while professional steam cleaners powerfully rinse and remove all residue as they work. There are two reasons you want to ensure all detergent is removed. The first is that this residue acts in the same way greasy build-ups do, by attracting and holding onto dirt. The second is that detergents can leave behind chemicals that are harmful to your family and pets. We also offer an eco-friendly detergent option that will be as effective as our professional grade detergent.

Finally, although using a home steam cleaner does help you remove some dirt, soiled areas that are greasy, as well as the new residue left behind from your detergent, will cause your carpet to become dirty again faster.

Potential Health Issues from Unclean Carpets

Even newer carpets can have hidden dangers that affect the purity of the air in your office. This can include allergens such as dust mites, and bacteria. These particles remain in the air and are loosened when people walk about the home. You are breathing in these particles every day. Allergens cause symptoms that can include itchy, watery eyes, skin rashes, and even respiratory issues.

More than 10 percent of people have a dust mite allergy and as many as 2,000 dust mites can live on a single ounce of carpet. This can cause serious breathing issues for those with allergies. In fact, even the dust in your carpet can cause respiratory challenges.

If you have had any spills, leaks or flooding you can also have unseen mould or mildew beneath the carpet. It takes a professional steam cleaning to get hot enough and provide enough power to force detergents deep down to remove existing mould as well as to stop further growth. If not addressed, mould can actually penetrate floorboards, leading to structural issues.

Recommended by Carpet Manufacturers

Most carpet manufacturers will recommend an annual steam clean to help protect your carpet from staining, as well as to remove odours and dirt build-up. This is even more important for those with children and pets. Dirt will be more obvious in high traffic areas which often require a more frequent cleaning, especially for lighter coloured carpets. Keep in mind that although a darker carpet might not show dirt, it doesn’t mean the dirt is not there!

Regular steam cleaning will make your carpets easier to vacuum and keep clean. As mentioned, this is because you must remove that pesky grease that holds onto dirt. With less grime to cling to, vacuuming becomes a breeze. This, in turn, can help avoid wear and tear that prematurely ages your carpet.

Refresh Your Décor

Nothing makes an office look more uncared for than a dirty carpet. Removing the dark markings left behind by dirty shoes provides a smooth, consistent look throughout your business giving it an instant update!

As you can see there are many benefits to having your carpets cleaned annually. Your office will look better, your environment will be cleaner, and you will avoid potential illness for your employees.

Making a lasting and impactful first impression is crucial for any business, and the cleanliness of your office has a lot to do with that. Carpets are an excellent investment that makes a powerful imprint in the memory of just about anybody who walks into your office.

Hand in rubber glove cleaning carpet with brush

Placing carpets to accentuate the look of your office is one thing, taking care of them is another. Dirty, stained carpets reflect poorly on your professionalism in addition to posing numerous health hazards.

Since commercial carpets are more prone to dust and dirt, it becomes even more important to clean them on a regular basis. Unfortunately, this can take a considerable amount of effort and without the right cleaning process in place, results may turn out to be less than desirable. This is why natural products and techniques are fast being adopted by businesses concerned about the upkeep of their carpets.

If you already have a commercial carpet in your office or are planning to buy one for your business, here are some natural ways to help clean it and extend its life.

Vacuuming

As basic as it gets, the first way to clean the carpet is to vacuum it regularly, ideally on a daily basis. It is advisable to invest in a good vacuum cleaner that works more effectively on larger carpet areas in offices. Make sure you clean the mesh of the vacuum in order to get rid of any dust, dirt, or other tiny items sucked into it.

Blotting

Another way to keep the carpet looking as good as new is to immediately clean any stains or dirt. If coffee, soil,or blood stains are spotted, the blotting technique must be used to soak up the liquid immediately. While there are solutions in the market to help remove stains even after they’re set, it is generally wiser to cure the stains immediately. Delay can make the stain more permanent and much harder to clean later.

Spot Cleaning

This is similar to the above cleaning tip. As soon as you find a spot on the carpet, wipe it off immediately. For any kind of dry stains, moisten the spot lightly and then blot it or use a cleaner to remove the stain.

Hot Water Wash

Hot water is one of the best cleaning agents and can be used for light cleaning on a regular basis. Mix water with a mild shampoo or any other cleaning solution and wash the carpets with it. Clean not only the carpets but also the floors beneath it for a much more effective cleaning experience and removal of dirt and contamination.

Using an Enzyme Cleaner

Using a good quality enzyme cleaner can help clean carpets effectively without leaving behind any foul smells. It gets rid of all the possible odours and is tough on stains as well.

Using Bleaches

Bleach is a wonderful product to be used to clean any tough stains on the carpet. There are a wide variety of bleachers available in the market. Choose and use the one that is most suitable for carpet cleaning.

Vinegar

Using a DIY product is always cheaper than buying a commercially branded product. If cost is an issue, use white vinegar to clean the carpets. Put the vinegar on any stains and let it stand for a while, before blotting it up. A mix of vinegar and shampoo can also be used to clean the entire area. Vinegar not only cleans well but also absorbs odours and smells.

Baking Soda

Using baking soda as a cleaning agent is another effective and cost-effective DIY way to clean carpets. Sprinkle baking soda over the stained area or layer it all over the carpet and leave it for a while to work. Later, clean it with a vacuum cleaner. The baking soda makes the carpet contamination-free while effectively removing grease stains as well.

Drying

The most ignored yet unavoidable technique in cleaning is drying. Once the carpet is cleaned, it is also vital to dry it properly. Wet areas tend to attract more germs and can become a breeding place for bacteria. Air dry the carpet and the floor after it is cleaned with any wet ingredients.

Dusting

Another basic tip but one that cannot be ignored. This simple yet effective technique of dusting at regular intervals prevents dust particles and other items from settling. You can simply use a dusting cloth to remove dust from the carpet.

Fresheners and Essential Oils

A technique used by most professional cleaning services, where, after the basic cleaning, the carpet is cleaned with some fresheners or essential oils to give it that extra touch, making it look fresher and brand new, while also keeping it germ-free. An advantage is that such fresheners are capable of getting rid of any odour that might have still been left behind after cleaning.

While it does take some effort and regular monitoring to keep carpets looking spotless and in shape, leaving them unattended can actually harm your health as well as that of your employees and any other person coming in contact with it.

Whether you’re doing the carpet cleaning yourself or looking to hire a commercial cleaning company for the purpose, ensure that only natural ways of cleaning are adopted. Using heavy chemical-based or other artificial cleaning methods will not only damage the carpet in the long run but can also have an adverse impact on the health of your employees.

There’s a good chance that you can remember your grandmother or grandfather house cleaning. Grandparents tend to keep the house cleaning process fairly straightforward. All you need is a bucket, a scrub brush, and a whole lot of bleach. Maybe a full gallon or two splashed around the entire house.

Women cleaning table with towel and cleaning liquid

When you walk through your local grocery store, you’ll find an entire aisle full of home cleaning products. Every product claims to do something different and vital and highly specific. But your grandparents might have had it right. Bleach is an old-fashioned remedy that can help you clean just about everything inside and outside of your house. You can even use it in your garden.

Today, people are most likely to put bleach in their washing machines. It gets stains out of clothing better than any other substance. But clothes aren’t the only items that bleach will work on. An entire home cleaning can be accomplished using bleach. It’s a more economical solution than using a dozen different bottles of highly specific cleaners.

If you’re ready to clean like your grandparents, roll up your sleeves, and go back to the basics; these are the house cleaning tips for bleach use. These house cleaning tips have been compiled by experts.

The Laundry Room

Even though the most common use for bleach is brightening your whites, you can also use it when you need to sanitize your laundry. For example, you might need to do a deep clean of your baby’s clothes or your own gym gear. When you’re looking for a deep clean, it’s important to add slightly more bleach than you usually would. In a standard washer, that’s 2/3 of a cup; in a high-efficiency washer, that’s 1/3 of a cup.

What many people don’t realize is that, depending on the method used to apply the dye, a great number of coloured clothes can also be washed with standard bleach. Before you do a full wash, experts recommend that you test a small and discrete part of the fabric with bleach. You should mix two tablespoons of bleach with 1/4 of a cup of water. Apply a small dot to the fabric, let it sit for about a minute, and then blot it dry. If there isn’t a stain, it’s okay to wash the garment with bleach.

The Kitchen

Chances are, you have a good number of different kitchen cleaners. One cleans the sink, one cleans the counters, one cleans the windows, one cleans the stove, etc. The potential list goes on and on. But as long as you’re willing to take the time to mix your own solution, bleach will fit every cleaning necessity in the kitchen.

If you want a basic formula to use everywhere, you should mix 1/2 of a cup of bleach with one full gallon of water. This is an effective disinfectant on your floors, refrigerator, tiles, sinks, countertops, stainless steel appliances, and any other hard surfaces in the kitchen.

If you’re disinfecting your plastic trash can, you’ll need your solution to be a little stronger. Mix 1/2 of a cup of bleach with 3/4 of a gallon of water. Meanwhile, plastic cutting boards should be cleaned with a diluted solution: two teaspoons of bleach mixed with a full gallon of water.

Travel mugs are often forgotten in the cleaning process, but they gather so much bacteria in their tricky lids and corners that they can benefit from bleach cleaning. If you mix two teaspoons of bleach with a full gallon of water, soak both the mug and the lid in it for two minutes, and then rinse it well. Then you’ll have a disinfected mug that’s safe to drink from.

The Bathroom

No matter whether you’re focusing on the floor or the ceiling, the mirror or the wall, the sink or the toilet or the shower, bleach is the deep-clean solution that will destroy nasty bacteria. When you’re cleaning your standard surfaces, like your tiles and toilets, you can use your standard bleach solution. But experts have recommendations for some trickier bleach applications.

If you want to save the mouldy shower curtain you found in the landfill, you can put it in your washing machine with basic detergent, along with 2/3 of a cup of bleach. This will kill the bacteria already on the curtain, clean the mould away, and prevent the formation of new growth.

You can disinfect the plastic bath toys that your kids play with. Just mix 1/2 of a cup of bleach with a full gallon of water. Let the toys soak in the solution for five minutes, and then rinse them well in the sink.

If you’re finding mildew and mould on your floor tiles, you can mix 3/4 of a cup of bleach with one full gallon of warm water. Use this solution to wipe down the entire surface. Let it sit for ten minutes, and then rinse it with unbleached warm water.

The Patio

Chances are, you can only use your patio a few times a year. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy it! If anything, you should get the most use out of the space while you can. Plastic patio furniture will often become dirty and full of cobwebs. It’s easy to clean it, though, if you mix a gallon of warm water with 3/4 of a cup of bleach. You can then wipe the solution over the plastic, wait for ten minutes, and then rinse the furniture off with warm water.

Please note: Be careful that you keep runoff from going into your garden! Bleach can be detrimental to your plants.

Even though it’s bad for plants, bleach can be good for your planters. If you want to refrain from giving your plants diseases or mold, you can clean out your pots from the last year with a mixture of 1/2 of a cup of bleach along with one full gallon of water. After the pots have been left to soak for five minutes, you can rinse them and let them air dry.

Though it takes a lot of work, doing a thorough, deep clean of your house is ultimately very rewarding. Everything feels like new again and you get to enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done. However, there always seem to be a few things around the house that you forget about while you’re doing a post renovation cleaning or just seem too difficult to clean in the first place. Here are nine household areas or items that tend to fly under the radar, along with the best ways to get them clean.

Woman cleaning carpet with brush and spray

Yellowed Pillows

You probably wash your pillowcases often enough, but what about your pillows? Old pillows can start to turn yellow from use since sweat and hair products can sink down through pillowcases. Luckily, pillows are easy to wash. Here’s how you can get yours clean in no time

  1. Remove all covers from pillows
  2. Put two at a time in the washing machine
  3. Using liquid detergent and bleach, wash on a hot cycle with an extra rinse
  4. Dry as instructed on the tag, adding tennis balls in the dryer to agitate them so that all surfaces get exposed to the heat
  5. If there’s any lingering dampness, leave them out to dry completely before putting any pillowcases back on

Window Blinds

Blinds get dusty so quickly, yet they seem to take forever to clean. However, that doesn’t have to be true thanks to this simple trick that makes creative use of your kitchen tongs.

  1. Cut a dusting cloth in half to get two narrower strips of cloth.
  2. Wrap each strip around the ends of the kitchen tongs, securing with rubber bands. Trim down the cloth strips if they get too bulky when wrapped.
  3. Proceed to clean the blinds, pinching one slat at a time between the cloth-wrapped tongs and sliding them horizontally.
  4. When you’re done, you can simply remove the cloth and return the tongs to the kitchen. Be sure to wash them before using them to pick up food!

Vent Covers

All the air blowing through vent covers leaves behind more dust and grime than you’d expect. These covers can be difficult to clean while they’re attached to the vents but pop them off and the process is much easier

  1. Unscrew the vent cover. Be sure to keep track of where you put the screws
  2. Wipe the slats down with a paper towel
  3. Place the vent cover in the top rack of your dishwasher and run a water-only cycle.
  4. Wipe the cover with a cloth to try it
  5. Remember those screws? Use them to reattach the vent cover and you’re done

Cloth Couches

Since the fabric is a porous surface, dirt, stains, and odors sink in and can’t simply be wiped off. However, since couches are popular places to relax and congregate in the home, any deep cleaning needs to include them. Some couches come with removable covers that can be machine washed. If that’s your couch, just follow the instructions on the tags. If not, you can use baking soda to remove stains and combat that old couch smell.

  1.  Use a stiff brush to remove all hair, both human and pet, from all the couch’s fabric-covered surfaces
  2. Sprinkle fabric surfaces with baking soda, concentrating on any stains or soiled areas
  3. Let sit for 20 minutes
  4. Use a handheld vacuum or hose attachment to suction up the baking powder
  5. Spray some mild all-purpose cleaner on a clean cloth and rub all fabric surfaces. Stains should disappear more easily

Electric Stove Burners

Cleaning the burner rings on an electric stove can seem like an impossible task. They quickly become dark with grime and rust. However, you can cut through all that with a few easy steps.

  1.  Remove the burner and place it on a towel or other work surface
  2. Use degreasing dish soap and paper towel to get off as much grime as you can
  3. Mix baking soda and water into a paste and coat the top surface of the burner
  4. Let sit for 20 minutes
  5. Using the rough side of a sponge, scrub off the baking soda paste
  6. Rinse and pat dry

Glass Cooktop

What if your stove doesn’t have burners to remove? The cooking surface can still develop unsightly rings of rust and grime. Fortunately, you can use the same ingredients as above to clean a glass cooktop.

  1.  Pour baking soda generously onto stained areas and spread it evenly with your fingers
  2. Soak a washcloth or hand towel in a solution of water and degreasing dish soap
  3. Squeeze the soap and water mixture over the baking soda and drape the towel over the cooktop
  4. Let sit for 20 minutes
  5. Pick up the towel and use it to scrub off the loosened grime
  6. Use a paper towel to remove excess baking soda paste and leave a shiny finish

Area Rugs

While most homeowners resort to renting out a steamer to clean carpets at home, many rugs can usually be cleaned with just soap and water. The next time you spot stains on your favourite area rug, take it outside and do the following:

  1. Hose down the rug, getting it evenly wet
  2. Pour OxiClean or a similar cleaner onto the rug and scrub with a stiff-bristled brush, concentrating on any stained areas. Be sure to check the tags to identify any substances that shouldn’t be used on your particular rug
  3.  Let sit for 2-3 hours
  4.  Rinse the rug with the hose, preferably with a sprayer attachment
  5.  Roll up the rug, squeezing out water and cleanser as you go
  6.  Repeat step 5, squeezing out even more water
  7. Stand the rug up to dry. Once it’s completely dry, return it to its indoor surface

Toilet Siphon Opening

Your toilet’s siphon keeps a constant water level in the bowl and prevents it from overflowing. The opening to the siphon is located in the bowl near the rim, and it can sometimes show hard water or rust stains. Remove those stains using these steps:

  1.  Remove the lid of the toilet tank
  2.  Shut off the tap that brings water to the toilet
  3.  Flush the toilet to empty the tank and bowl
  4.  Using one or more strips of duct tape, completely cover the toilet siphon opening Your goal here is to form a good seal.
  5.  Pour several cups of white vinegar into the tank
  6.  Flush and let sit overnight. The duct tape will hold the vinegar in the siphon opening so it can dissolve the staining
  7.  Remove the duct tape, turn the water back on, and use the toilet as normal

Broom

How often do you clean your cleaning supplies? You might not think about it, but your broom can get pretty dirty after a while. When you’re done sweeping, show your broom a little love. Use any or all of these methods to get it as clean as possible.

  1. Take the broom outside and knock off the excess dirt or pet hair
  2. If you have a handheld vacuum or a vacuum with hose attachments, vacuum the end of the bristles
  3. Use a disposable disinfecting wipe to clean the bristles
  4. In a bucket, add a little bit of degreasing dish soap to water and stir to create foam. Set the broom, brush side down, in the bucket and leave to soak for one hour
  5. While you’re at it, don’t forget your dustpan! A shot of multipurpose cleaner and a quick wipe down should do the trick

A good deep clean can do a house a world of good, but the whole process can sometimes be overwhelming. If you follow these tips but still need help, call Sunrise cleaning at 289-814-1824 or contact us here.

While a majority of people relying on the washing machine to keep their clothes clean, only a few give priority to washer cleaning. Just as clothes need constant washing, your machine also needs regular cleaning. Some people may assume that the detergent they are using to clean the clothes also cleans the machine. On the contrary, some detergent remnants may dirty the machine. Laundry dirt, hard water, and detergents can cause a build up in the inner parts of the washer.

Washing machine in a laundry room with bathing towels

If not properly cleaned, your washing machine will begin to develop an odour. Poor maintenance can also cause leaks, substandard cleaning results, and breakage. So, how do you ensure your washing machine remains clean and functional? Here are the top home cleaning tips you can implement on a monthly basis. First, let’s look at what you need for the job.

Tools

Materials

  • Baking soda
  • Bleach or white vinegar

1. Clean the Detergent Drawer

Before you clean a front load washing machine, remove the detergent drawer. Detergent drawers can retain excess detergent, which can cause the drains to clog over time. It is also a haven for germs and can become a health hazard. A dirty detergent drawer can have a negative impact on how your clothes are cleaned. For the best outcome, remove the detergent drawer and place it in warm water to soak. Then, use a toothbrush to remove any residue. Don’t forget to get rid of the dirt in the cavity too. Once it is cleaned, use antibacterial spray to kill any germs. Your washer comes with a user manual, therefore, you should have instructions that explain how to do this. If you are still unsure, consult your cleaning service provider.

2. Clean the Door Seal or Rubber Gasket

Before cleaning the drum, clean the rubber bands that run across the drum. The rubber gasket tends to collect fluff from clothes, and if you let it build up, it will become difficult to remove. For better results, use a damp cloth to wipe the seal before and after each wash to ensure your machine doesn’t pick up fresh dirt every time you use it. During your normal monthly cleaning routine, scrub out anything that sticks to it, and spray the bands with antibacterial disinfectant.

3. Clean the Drum

Even if the inner part of the machine appears clean, you should still clean it because there are several nooks and crannies that can host germs. The simplest way to guarantee it is clean and germ-free is to run an empty wash after a few months. Mix your baking soda with hot water and set the machine to run on a hot water cycle. This will disinfect the washer and remove any nasty smells. You can also use vinegar instead of baking soda. After the empty wash, leave the machine’s door open to dry the drum.

If you have pets in your house, there is a high chance that your machine has pet hair in it. The simplest way to remove pet hair is to leave the drum to dry completely, and then use a soft brush to vacuum out the hair.

4. Check Inlet Hose Filter

The filter prevents debris, tissues, hair, and minerals in water from polluting your cycle. When left unchecked, it can clog, which may prevent the free flow of water into your washer for a fresh cycle. In most machines, you will find the filter at the front part of the washing machine hidden behind a hinged cover.

To clean filters, turn off the water supply and remove the hatch (hinged cover). From here, get rid of everything that accumulated on the filter. Additionally, check inside the cavity to make sure you have eliminated any trapped debris. Then wipe the filter with a cloth or kitchen towel. In some instances, the filter may have a waterlog behind it as a result of the heavy blockage, so you need to have a bowl or pan ready to collect excess water.

5. Wipe the Exterior

When you are done with cleaning the interior, don’t forget to wipe the surface of the washing machine with a damp cloth. While doing so, avoid solvent or abrasive cleaners, which can damage or scratch the surface of the appliance.

6. Regular Cleaning

One of the simplest, yet effective, home cleaning tips is to clean your washing machine on a monthly basis. A majority of newer washer models come with a custom machine cleaning cycle. If your machine doesn’t have the customized cleaning plan, pour chlorine bleach into the dispenser and run an empty wash with hot water. You can also use specialty cleaners.

It is not a must to thoroughly clean the washing machine after every wash. But there are several small measures you can take to ensure the washer runs smoothly in between uses. Immediately after every wash, remove all clothes. Emptying the washing machine after the end of a cycle will prevent odours from developing in the washtub. The odour can be easily transferred to your clothes. On top of this, you should also leave the door slightly open to allow the free flow of air, which will dry out any remaining moisture.

Final Thoughts

It doesn’t make financial sense to spend so much on your washing machine and then neglect it. Use the above home cleaning tips to ensure your machine decontaminates your wardrobe for several years. Cleaning your washing machine regularly will not only keep it running, but you will also eliminate repair expenses. If you are unable to maintain a regular cleaning regimen, it is a good idea to hire a cleaning service.

Remember to read your washing machine user manual before applying the above home cleaning tips. Also, use the right detergent. Powder detergents are usually ideal. Some hand wash detergent such as liquid softeners or extra suds may leave residue on your automatic washing machine, which can significantly affect its longevity.

When you want to have a cleaner home, there are ways to sanitize it faster, easier and more naturally. While you have learned an assortment of house cleaning tips from your parents, there is always something new to learn so that your home smells and looks fresher. Here are nine smarter ways to clean your home on a daily or weekly basis.

1. Get Rid of the Clutter in Your Home

Getting rid of the clutter in your home is one of the best house cleaning tips. You might spend several hours a week removing the canisters and small appliances from your kitchen countertops. In addition to needing to remove the clutter from surfaces to wash or dust the items, the small appliances, cookie jars, and other items can become grimy from flying grease or food particles. You should also get rid of the excess clutter throughout your home to allow for faster cleaning.

2. Make Your Own Cleaning Supplies

If you are worried about the toxins in store-bought products, you can make your own cleansers with items you can buy in the supermarket. You can buy spray bottles to make your own window cleaner. Just fill them with white vinegar mixed with water. Rather than wasting paper towels, you can use soft cloths that are easy to wash and dry. If you need to remove stains from your kitchen countertops, then sprinkle them with baking soda before spraying the area with white vinegar.

3. Clean a Room in a Certain Pattern

Stop wasting time walking from one side of the room to the other while cleaning. Begin cleaning at the top of the room, and also, work your way from right to left. With this method, dust filters down from the upper walls to the floor so that you will only need to vacuum the carpet once. Carry a garbage bag with you as you are cleaning so that you can throw away any items right away.

4. Use a Tote for Carrying Your Cleaning Supplies

A professional home cleaning service provides totes for the cleaners so that they have the items required for sanitizing a surface handy. Keep your homemade cleaners, cleaning cloths and other items in a plastic tote so that it is easier for you to clean a sticky tabletop or a dirty switch plate. Before storing your cleaning tote in a cabinet a child can’t access, make sure to mix new homemade cleansers so that it is faster to clean surfaces at any time during the rest of the week.

5. Add Essential Oils to Your Homemade Cleansers

If you want to have a home that smells fresh, add a few drops of essential oils to your homemade cleaners. You can find essential oils at hobby stores and fabric shops. There are numerous scents to choose from, including citrus orange for the kitchen or lavender for the bedroom. You can also select essential oils known for eliminating bacteria, including peppermint or cinnamon. It is also possible to add essential oils to the water that you use for mopping the floors so that your entire home smells wonderful.

6. Focus on the Bathroom

After eliminating the clutter in the bathroom, it is easier to keep it clean. Begin at the top of the bathroom by cleaning any mould or soap scum from the bathtub walls. Next, clean the countertop, faucet and sink with your homemade cleanser. Spray your homemade vinegar mixture onto the toilet seat and tank before wiping it clean with a cloth. You can pour baking soda or vinegar directly into the toilet bowl before scrubbing it with a special brush.

7. Learn How to Vacuum Quickly

If you want to vacuum a room quickly, you should have a great vacuum cleaner that has a high-efficiency particulate air filter. Unless your home receives a lot of foot traffic, you don’t need to move all of the furniture each week when you vacuum. Concentrate on vacuuming the areas near the doorways and the centre of the room where people walk. If you are vacuuming the dining room, then you will want to focus on the area underneath the table and chairs. A few times a year, you should move the furniture to vacuum the debris that collects under the couches or beds.

8. Mop Floors Efficiently

You don’t need to spend several hours mopping the floors in your home. First, get a bucket that you can fill with sudsy water so that you can use a sponge mop for scrubbing the floors that don’t have carpets. Remove the rugs and take them outside for shaking, and mop the floors quickly in both directions to remove dirt. If the floor is extremely dirty, then you should rinse it with clean water to avoid streaks. Keep the room ventilated so the floors will dry as fast as possible.

9. Hire a Professional Home Cleaning Service

If you don’t have time to clean your home due to a busy schedule, then call a professional home cleaning service. Today, cleaning companies can use natural cleansers without toxins that create a chemical odour or that leave dangerous residue on surfaces. You also don’t need to remain at home while it is being cleaned because cleaning companies usually perform background checks on their employees.

With today’s busy lifestyles, juggling our career, marriage, kids and hobbies can sometimes seem impossible. On top of that, keeping a household is in itself a full-time job. So it’s no surprise many families are hiring housekeeping services to keep things spotless. After a stressful day, the last thing you want is to come back to a dirty home.

How To Hire A Housekeeper You Can Trust

But how do you find a maid service you can trust? Cleaners will often come when the homeowner is out so they can get as much work done as possible. Although most housekeeping companies do an excellent job, there have been stories of theft, vandalism and overall incompetence. That’s why it’s important you do your research before letting a maid service enter your residence.

We’ve come up with some tips on how to hire housekeeping help you can trust. After all, these maids are strangers with full access to your entire home and personal belongings. So take our advice before signing up and you won’t be disappointed.

Insurance

Insurance is crucial when hiring housekeeping services. You’ll want to make sure the company has adequate coverage so that you’re not on the hook if accidents happen. If a maid slips and falls while cleaning your stairs, your homeowner’s insurance will probably not cover the incident. The cleaning business should have liability and employee accident coverage. Their policy must include the workers, the company and your home.

Bonding

Bonding is like a type of insurance. If something happens to your belongings — like theft or damage — the cleaning company will cover the cost. When you hire a bonded house cleaning company, you’re ensuring your possessions are safe. Use a service that is bonded for its customers. The higher their level of insurance coverage, the safer it will be to sign up with them. Although a business license is mandatory for a company to operate, bonding is not. It is however, a very important aspect and shows that the business takes their clientele seriously.

References

The best way to gauge whether your housekeepers are trustworthy is to ask around. Get references from neighbours and family members to see what their experiences were like. If you can’t get referrals, ask the maid service to put you in touch with some of their own clients. Here are some of the questions you should ask when calling their references:

  • How long have you used this company’s housekeeping services?
  • How happy are you with their work?
  • Have you ever needed to make a formal complaint? How did the company handle your concerns?
  • Do you trust their maids?
  • How likely are you to recommend their services?

If you do a quick search online, chances are you’ll be able to find some business reviews as well. Go with a reputable company that’s been in the industry for a long time to lower your chances of disappointment.

Employee screening

Ask the house cleaning company how they go about hiring their staff. Do they conduct criminal background checks? Is residence status confirmed? Also, ask if their business consists of staff employees or subcontractors. A housekeeping service run by subcontractors may not provide training or liability insurance. Since their maids belong to another firm, you may not get the standard of quality you deserve. And their process for resolving client complaints may not be effective either.

Cleaning products and equipment

Who will be providing the cleaning products? The housekeeping company or the client? Make sure you are clear on this before the work begins. Many independent maids expect you to supply all cleaning materials. If the products are included by the company, ask what chemicals they contain if you are sensitive to bleaches and ammonia. Make sure their products are safe for children and pets too. The same goes for cleaning equipment. Find out who will provide things like the vacuums, mops, dusters and sponges.

No obligation quote

To avoid any surprises when it comes to costs, ask the housekeeping service to come to your home and provide an estimate. Their prices will vary greatly depending on whether you live in a condo or 5-bedroom home. The maids will want to see how big your rooms are, how much furniture is in them, and the depth of cleaning you require. The first appointment will most likely be the most expensive because you will probably require a ‘deep clean’. State exactly what you expect from their services. Are you looking for a light dusting once a week or a full-on scrubbing of all three bathrooms twice a month? You will avoid unnecessary disagreements if you are clear from the beginning about your expectations. During this time, you will also have a chance to ask questions. Ask how long it will take to clean the home and whether you will get the same maid each time. Find out about last-minute cancellation policies as things do crop up unexpectedly in our busy lives.

If you’ve done your research and have been diligent about service details, hiring a housekeeping service is the best investment you can make. Your time is valuable. Spend those precious hours with your family or doing the things you love, and leave the cleaning to the professionals instead!

Often referred to as miracle material, microfiber is one of the world’s most preferred cleaning cloths. If you haven’t yet bought into the hype, then it’s about time you did. Everyone loves microfiber, especially professional cleaning companies. Let’s explore why microfiber is the industry’s preferred material for getting things squeaky clean!

Why Microfiber Is The Go To Cleaning Material For Janitorial Services

What is microfiber?

To understand the benefits of this synthetic material, we must first know what it’s made of. Microfiber is a combination of nylon and polyester. The fibers are actually finer than human hair. When pieced together, they create a net that traps more dirt, dust and moisture than cotton. One of the reasons behind its effectiveness is its static charge. This clinging action pulls in dirt until the fiber is eventually washed.

Where can I use microfiber?

Microfiber is soft enough to be used on a number of surfaces for a lint-free shine. It works especially well on glass, mirrors or chrome — it can even be used to clean your car. Because microfiber is made up of millions of microscopic hooks, it has the ability to attract all kinds of dirt, dust and bacteria around the home. Here are some of our favourite uses:

Kitchen: Get all that gunk and grime off your kitchen appliances with your trusty microfiber rag and a bit of water. Stainless steel appliances will sparkle after a quick wipe down with this miracle material. You can also use microfiber for cleaning countertops, cabinets and stove tops too. Food residue, grease and oil are definitely no match for those microscopic hooks!

Bathroom: Get all that mildew and soap scum off your shower tiles by giving it a good scrub with your microfiber.

Dusting: Microfiber tends to trap dust particles instead of sending them airborne. You’ll also avoid chemical residue on your surfaces because all you need is a bit of water to get the job done.

On your body: We know it sounds odd, but ever consider ditching the soap? Microfiber facial cloths are perfect for removing makeup and grease from your face — sans soap! Give it a try. We promise you’ll never feel this clean again.

Can I use microfiber for a greener clean?

Yes, microfiber is perfect for those who would like to avoid those harsh chemicals altogether. Most cleaning products contain detergents, solvents and fragrances. These things can be especially harmful to small babies and children. With microfiber however, all you need is a bit of water to remove nearly 99% of bacteria in your home and office. Cleaning with water means you can keep these nasty chemicals off your surfaces and out of the air you breathe. You’ll be saving a ton of money in cleaning products too.

Because microfiber can be used over and over again, you’ll be helping the environment by cutting down on all your paper towel use. Manufacturing paper towel consumes a lot of resources including trees and water. Imagine how many of these you’d be going through to clean your windows, mirrors and countertops. Microfiber however, can be laundered hundreds of times and never lose its effectiveness.

What are the additional benefits of microfiber?

Apart from its lint-free cleaning power, there are so many other benefits to using microfiber. Here are some additional benefits:

1) Faster drying time: Compared to cotton cloths and sponges, microfiber dries up to 60% faster. If you have only a couple of cloths on hand, you won’t need to wait as long to use them again after washing.

2) Long-term savings: Good microfiber products cost a bit more than traditional sponges. But you will definitely make your money back over the long run, given that microfiber can be laundered and reused up to 500 times.

3) Better cleaning power: Because of its net-like structure, microfiber mops make better surface contact with the floor than traditional cotton mops

4) Less slips and falls: Floors cleaned with a microfiber mop dry much faster than when cleaned with a conventional mop

5) Hypoallergenic: Microfiber is unlikely to cause a reaction, making it great for anyone suffering from allergies or asthma

How can I take care of my microfiber cloths?

To ensure the effectiveness and durability of your microfiber cloths, they must be washed properly. Two big things to avoid is fabric softener and laundry detergent. Chemical products can actually be harmful to the microfibers and destroy their magnetic ability to attract dust and bacteria. Although it may seem counterintuitive, all you truly need to wash microfiber is water. Nothing else.

Always remember to wash microfiber on its own. Cotton for example, should never be mixed in with a load of microfiber towels. Wash on a cool setting with no detergent. Once the cycle is done, let your microfiber air dry or throw in the dryer on the lowest possible setting.

If you’re tired of cleaning your home or office with harsh chemicals and dirty cotton rags, consider switching to microfiber instead. Millions of people can’t be wrong about this ‘miracle material’. For immaculate surroundings, invest in a set of high-quality microfiber products that will give you an excellent clean and lasts a lifetime!

Hiring a cleaning service to clean your home can make your life easier and relieve you of daily chores. You will no longer have to worry about making time to get chores done during your busy day. Once you delegate the cleaning responsibilities to a cleaning service, there is no need to spend time dusting, washing or vacuuming.

Benefits Of Hiring A Professional House Cleaning Service

Besides cleaning your home for you, professional cleaners provide you with health benefits that include eliminating allergies, removing dust mites, and achieving a deeper clean. There is no need for you to worry about mould and mildew because maids will know how to eradicate microbes.

Keep Allergies Away

Dust allergies are a big problem in homes. Many children and adults have developed allergies to dust. It’s a common allergen that causes itchy eyes and a runny nose. When you hire a professional cleaning service to keep your home clean, they will make use of High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) Filter vacuums to get rid of as much dust as possible from your home. Not only will they clean the carpets and floors, but the filters are able to get rid of most of the dust floating in the air. Homeowners can stay outside while cleaners get rid of the dirt and dust in the home.

Deeper Clean

Professional cleaners can deep clean your bathroom and kitchen and get rid of harmful bacteria in there. A cleaning service can use the right tools such as vacuums, long dusters, sponges and mops to reach tough areas. Their supplies are designed to disinfect and cleanse contaminants from your environment. The vacuums they use will remove dust, dead skin and debris from carpet and crevices. This will allow you to breathe better and have a dust-free atmosphere.

A cleaning service must have experience with leaving bathrooms, kitchens, hallways and additional rooms in exceptional condition. They need to clean window sills, ledges and be careful when wiping woodwork. Your service must wash mirrors, clean tiles, bathtubs and showers. They need to dust furniture, picture frames and shelves and make sure cobwebs and fingerprints are gone.

Your home will receive an intense clean because professionals have years of cleaning experience. They know which cleaning agents to use in every circumstance and will leave your home sparkling.

Keep Mould Away

Bathrooms tend to be a breeding ground for several types of bacteria, such as mould, fungi, and other gastrointestinal viruses. It can be tough to get rid of all the bacteria in your bathroom, especially when you’re pressed for time and don’t always have the time to do a deep clean. Professional cleaners will have the equipment and time to dedicate to cleaning your bathroom so that you can ensure it’s germ-free, week after week.

Protect Your Kids

Young children and infants are more susceptible to various infections and need to be protected. The best way to make sure that your children are safe is to keep your home germ-free. Maids can ensure that your home is kept clean at all times, no matter how hectic your schedule gets.

Reduce Fatigue and Stress

Dealing with your everyday routine and balancing your work and home life can become overwhelming. After working a full day and then coming home to care for your family, not much time or energy is left to work on cleaning your home. Overextending yourself can have a serious impact on your health, including fatigue and stress. When you hire a maid to help you out around the house you will find that you have more down-time, and are able to actually relax and bond with your loved ones.

When you allow professionals to do the cleaning, you can relax while they do all the work. There is no need for you to overextend yourself or get stressed out from performing chores. A professional cleaning service can utilize special techniques to banish microscopic organisms in your home that cause infections.

Keep Bathrooms and Kitchens Hygienic

When it comes to cleaning your bathroom, professional cleaners are sure to extinguish bacteria, fungi and mould. They are also sure to remove viruses and any organisms living on the bathtub, toilets and sink surfaces. They know how to mop the floors in your kitchen and bathroom to wipe out stains. Since these two areas harbour the most germs, cleaners focus on cleaning hard to reach places.

When a professional service cleans your bathroom, they are sure to wipe down your faucets and sinks and disinfect your toilet. They thoroughly disinfect your counters and your bathtub. If you are concerned about germs, there is no need for you to encounter these microbes. A professional is not afraid of germs and will do a better job at sanitizing the area.

These days, it seems like there’s an advertisement for a cleaning service everywhere you go: billboards, van decals, television commercials, service-based websites. But are home cleaning services really that popular? With more people balancing their careers and family, many don’t have the time it takes to maintain an orderly home on their own.

Things To Consider Before Hiring A Maid

Some casual help around the house can be a big help, but there are a few things that you should consider before taking the plunge and hiring a maid. If you have a busy lifestyle, feel crunched for time, or just don’t know what to do, then consider these 7 factors before hiring a maid.

Budget

First things first: you have to figure out if you can afford a maid before you hire one. If you can, great! Skip on down to number two. But if you aren’t sure whether or not you can squeeze it into the budget, then this one’s for you.

The cost for a maid can vary, and can put a strain on your budget. If you really need a maid but aren’t sure if you can afford it, consider shuffling the budget around. Maybe only go out to eat once a month instead of every week. Or maybe you can make coffee at home instead of grabbing one on the way to work.

You can also reevaluate how often you’d need cleaning services. If once a week sounds a little excessive, you can also schedule a deep cleaning once every month or two. No matter your cleaning needs, a cleaning service or individual can typically adapt to your schedule.

Size of Your Home

If you have a smaller house, chances are you can clean it up quickly enough to negate any positives you might have from hiring a maid. Why pay someone over a hundred dollars to clean what you could’ve done in an hour? If it’ll take over 8 hours, however, it might be worth your time to consider hiring a maid.

Divide your salary per hour at work to figure out your base salary. Then figure out just how much time you spend on menial tasks like cleaning the floorboards, folding laundry, and scrubbing the toilet. You might find that hiring help will cost less than if you were to pay yourself to do these things — and imagine what you can do with all that free time!

Amount of Chores

Dishes piled sky high in the kitchen? Can’t find a single clean thing to wear? And when was the last time you vacuumed? If it seems like things get worse no matter how much time you’ve poured into tidying up, you should think about hiring a cleaning service. They can pop in and help you tackle the things that seem never-ending in just a matter of hours. However, if you simply don’t want to do those dishes or dread vacuuming for some reason, it may not be worth the money to hire help for such a short amount of time.

Busy Schedule

Wake up, work, get home, clean, squeeze in a second to eat dinner, sleep, repeat. If this sounds like you, then it’s probably time to contact a maid. Cleaning services are a great way to free up a little bit of your time for the more important things. When you don’t have to worry so much about washing clothes and bleaching the bathtub, you have time to take up a hobby or learn a new recipe instead of munching on quick minute meals. You can also even take a nap if you want — yes, a nap! If that sounds like a dream come true, then a cleaning service is the right choice for you.

Independent vs. Corporate

When it comes to hiring a cleaning service, there are many different pros and cons that come with choosing an individual contractor versus someone from a large corporation. Individual cleaners are more likely to have a flexible schedule for regular clients or one-time cleanings. Corporate companies, on the other hand, have more safeguards in place to ensure only the most trustworthy maids enter your home. In short, corporations are best if you desire background checks and usually some form of insurance coverage, whereas individuals are the best option for saving money and flexibility.

Think About Your Everyday Life and Habits

Do you hate cleaning? Groan at the thought of sweeping out that corner again? Not everyone can be a cleaning superstar—and that’s okay! There are professionals out there who can do it to perfection while you’re off doing the things that really make you happy. This is also a great choice for families with young children. If it seems like every time you put the toys away they’re back on the floor seconds later, it’s probably a good time to hire some help. A maid can tidy up while you and the kids are out at the park or running errands.

Special Occasions

Maybe you aren’t looking for a maid long term. Or maybe you are, but you don’t want one to stop by very often. Either way, many maid services are flexible enough to adjust to your needs. If you’re going to be hosting an event or dinner, preparing to sell your house, or even just need a one-time visit, consider scheduling a special occasion maid.
