Moving is a pivotal time in one’s life, with the enormity of the process being quite grandiose. Buying a new home or moving out of your rental is both physically and emotionally demanding, not only for yourself but, if applicable, your entire family. Ideally, the experience would be more acclaimed if you were able to hone in on the beautiful possibilities that await you in your new residence. This mindfulness purely exists once the last of your items are unpacked and put away, and your cherished new home is immaculate from top to bottom. There is one daunting task that often hinders this from happening sooner rather than later—deep cleaning your home before moving out.

Sweeping Reasons to Deep Clean Your Home Before Moving Out

In the seeming frenzy of moving, preparing your old home for the new owners is consistently overlooked. In essence, it should be a crucial element of your overall strategy. It’s not exceptional to believe that deep cleaning is not imperative, but conversely, there is solid logic to accomplishing this function before moving out. The following reasons divulge precisely why you should deep clean your home before your big move, gingerly devised by our trusted and diligent team at Sunrise-Cleaning.

To Make a Clean Transition: Avoid Being in Limbo

The expression “there is no looking back” seems perfectly fitting when you move out. The process should gracefully end precisely once the last box of miscellaneous items rests in the back seat of your cramped vehicle. The pivotal moment being when you scan your old home one final time and smile. Instead, more often than not, you find yourself in transitional limbo: having to return to clean the inevitable mess you left behind. The dirt and disarray accumulate not solely from your move, but also from the everyday living and chaos leading up to that day.

Devoting your time and energy into unpacking and getting settled into your new home is your ideal priority. Despite this, with any move, you remain bound to deep clean your old home. Our team is expertly familiar with the toil this brings, and we advise our fastidious clean-out moving services.

With our intensive collaboration, you can look forward to a conclusive mindset. You will be more productive in giving your new home the care and attention it needs. Being able to commit to the plethora of tasks that lie ahead in your new dwelling at your exclusive leisure and pace is paramount. Feeling torn between the responsibilities of the two homes is nothing short of adverse and unnecessary.

Deep Cleaning is Demanding: Save Your Energy

Deep cleaning the home you are leaving is a substantial project. It is one that extends beyond the realms of your standard weekly cleaning regimen that you may already perceive as cumbersome. And it’s more so when entwined within your constant day-to-day activities and obligations. The endeavour is even more arduous with the lack of time to complete all the seemingly endless projects on your list. Aside from scrubbing bathroom grime, cleaning and sanitizing your kitchen, emptying closets, disposing of garbage, etc., there is an abundance of detailed tasks that are still pressing. We suggest considering whether you can extend yourself to take on the physical grind, both in your old home and new dwelling. The challenge becomes more of a struggle with time restraints. You may also have contractual commitments in which you are obligated to present a shipshape home for new homeowners. Deep cleaning services offer you more than a physical advantage; they enhance your peace of mind.

Out of Province, Out of Mind: It’s Essential

In many instances, your move may require some travel, and not just across town or borough, but also province or country. Such a change in scenery usually requires a little more legwork, so to speak. Hence, the details of your move become slightly more intricate and, consequently, more complex. We understand that such a vital relocation may have come with several limitations in terms of freedom. The opportunity to return to your old home may not be feasible, and fundamentally, it’s likely pricey. Some inflexible commitments that may deter you are new employment or the onset of a new school year. In other instances, it may justly be a lack of efficiency or desire. Overall, the commute, coupled with the extensive cleanup, is taxing both physically and mentally. Furthermore, there is usually a predetermined time frame to complete the deep clean in your old home. This scenario demands that deep cleaning services are essential.

It’s a Fresh Start for the New Occupants: Common Courtesy

Investing in deep cleaning services extends well beyond the benefits you’ll receive. You should grant to the new owners the same warmth and motivation you afford to settle into your new space, without the pressure of having to delay unpacking and getting settled. Not only will this allow the new homeowners to settle in quicker, they too will receive a jump start on making memories in their new home. In a unique sense, one may consider it the impeccable housewarming gift.

Our team at Sunrise-Cleaning is about providing outstanding services, ultimately enhancing the quality of your move. It is a potentially very challenging and often stressful event in your life. We witness how our commitment to quality assistance, in turn, influences the wellbeing of others as well. Many home decor experts and neophytes alike claim that the kitchen serves as the focal point of most homes. Furthermore, the fridge serves as the object of interest for many of the occupants of a home, as it contains comfort food and other items that people will serve on special occasions and the like.

Top Tips for Cleaning and Organizing Your Fridge

However, negligence can lead to problems, such as expired food, pungent odours, tough grime and residue, and other issues that should be taken care of as soon as possible. Here, we provide some cleaning tips that you can use to clean and organize your fridge.

Buy a Few Baskets

You can purchase a few cheap baskets from your local dollar store in order to house some of your smaller food items. For instance, you can use brightly coloured baskets to store bottles that keep tipping over. Eggs and things that are stored in bags of plastic, such as cheese and tomato pizza slices can also be kept in baskets.

Get Rid of Clutter

Upon closer inspection, you may realize that there are a plethora of food items that have seen better days in your fridge. Many things may have expired, and you may also have certain items that you simply don’t enjoy eating or using to prepare your meals. In fact, some items do not even need to be refrigerated, such as potatoes, so please store such items in your cabinets so that you will have less clutter in your fridge.

Take Care of Your Crisper

We would recommend that you line your vegetable crisper with either a few newspapers or some paper towels for two reasons. Doing so will allow the juices that are secreted by your fruits and vegetables to be absorbed by the material, which will allow you to clean out your drawers with ease.

Then, once the liner has been spent, simply toss it out and place a new one in. The second reason for lining your crisper with newspapers or paper towels is that doing so will absorb extra moisture from your fruits and vegetables. The result is that your food will stay fresh for far longer and, as a bonus, will also be crisper and more delicious.

Get Rid of Your Plastic Bags

Virtually everyone knows that plastic bags are hazardous to the environment, as they are not biodegradable and end up in landfills. However, did you know that they will also cause your vegetables and fruits to spoil at an accelerated rate?

As such, avoid using plastic bags to store your fruits and vegetables. Plastic not only accelerates spoilage but will also make it impossible to determine what is inside them, unless you have x-ray vision. Instead, we would suggest that you keep them loose in your crisper. Or, you can organize them in an organizing basket or place them in some open mesh.

Follow the One Bottle Rule

Another easy way to reduce clutter in your fridge is to adhere to the one bottle rule. Essentially, you should stick to only one bottle of each condiment (for example, ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish, and salad dressing) at any given moment in your fridge. However, if there is a special on condiments at your local supermarket, then you can buy a few extra bottles or containers and store them in your pantry until the supply in your fridge runs out.

Avoid Using Plates

Many people will use plates to store certain items in their fridge, but we would recommend that you avoid using plates for storage purposes. In other words, you may want to use sturdy containers with lids for your food storage. After all, the last thing you will want to deal with is spoiled or mouldy plates of food, not to mention spills that could have easily been avoided had the food been stored in an airtight container.

And Cups While You’re At It

Some people will also use cups to store their drinks or leftover liquids, which serves as a recipe for disaster, especially if you have kids living in your home. As such, you should avoid using cups to store liquids in your fridge. They can easily be tipped over and spill, and they may also spread unpleasant odours in and around your fridge that you will want to avoid at all costs.

Designate Different Shelves for Different Food Categories

If clutter has become an issue, then one easy way to reduce and find items easier is to designate each shelf in your fridge for a different type or category of food and drink. For instance, one shelf can be designated for leftovers, while another can be reserved for snacks or beverages.

The end result is your fridge will appear neater, and you will be able to find what you want to eat or drink quicker as well. You can also write the category of food on the lip of each shelf using a dry erase marker. This is handy, especially if you are having trouble keeping track of what food and drink go where.

Use Plastic Placemats

If drips and spills are common in your household, then you can line the shelves in your fridge with plastic placemats. In the event that a spill does occur, all you will need to do is take the mats out of your fridge and then rinse them off in the sink. Trust us; your lower back will thank you.

It may be hard to believe, but summer is almost over, which means many people will start to prepare their homes for the cooler weather and shorter days. Some may decide to use a cleaning service to get their home sparkles from top to bottom, but there are many things that you can do yourself, or get your family to help you with, to help keep your home looking spectacular.

Here, we provide a detailed fall cleaning checklist, with tips that are easy and affordable, ensuring that no corner is left unturned before October arrives.

Ultimate Fall Cleaning Checklist

Pantry Audit

All boxes and cans should be taken off of the shelves in your pantry. You can use your vacuum to eliminate crumbs or dust that have been lingering over the last few months. You’ll be surprised at the amount of dust and other particles that have accumulated over the spring and summer, but your trusty vacuum should be able to take care of business with ease.

Next, carefully check each can and box to ensure that they are in good condition, as well as to check if they’re beyond their sell-by date. Any such items should be thrown out or recycled if applicable before moving on to part two.

Smoke Detector Inspection

Your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors should have new batteries to ensure that they work as intended. A good way to remember to put in new batteries is to swap them when it is time to adjust your clocks for daylight savings time.

Swapping out your old batteries for a new set will not suffice, as your carbon monoxide and smoke detector units also need to be cleaned. Due to dust build-up over the months, it can hinder their performance, and given the fact that they are life-saving devices, you will want to ensure that they are working to their full potential.

You can easily clean your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors by using the soft brush attachment that came with your vacuum. Simply use the brush to clean in and around the opening of each unit, which will usually only take a few minutes to complete. Remember to replace your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors if you have owned them for over a decade.

Flip Mattresses

Flip your mattresses right after you turn your clocks back for the fall. If you are unable to flip your mattresses because they have pillow tops, rotate them about 180 degrees so that you won’t have to worry about body impression foam causing slumping in certain areas. Odours can also be eliminated with some baking soda, and you should vacuum each mattress after you have sprinkled baking soda over them.

Shampoo Your Carpeting

The holidays are just around the corner, so you may want to get ahead of the game by scrubbing your carpet with some shampoo and elbow grease. While there are some do-it-yourself options that you can try, most experts recommend you call in the pros to perform at least one professional carpet cleaning per year. Or, you can rent a carpet cleaner and clean your carpets yourself, if you prefer.

Take Care of Upholstered Surfaces

Many people believe that their sofas and couches are clean, only to find that a dust cloud quickly envelops them as they plop on their couch to watch some TV. Vacuum all of your chairs and sofas, ensure that you also vacuum every cushion on both sides. You should thoroughly vacuum the platform below each cushion, as well as the arms, sides, and backs of each cushion.

Wash Windows

Clean your windows using a glass cleaner or mix a small amount of dishwashing liquid with some water into a spray bottle to spray your windows. Then use a soft microfiber cloth to wipe them down. Our favourite tip is to clean your windows on a cloudy day, as it will be easier to see streaks on your windows.

Clean Your Walls and Light Fixtures

If your walls are wood-panelled or dry painted, then you should dust, wash, and rinse them periodically to ensure that they are immaculate. You should also remember to clean your light fixtures, particularly those that are ceiling mounted. They tend to be forgotten for months, if not years, and can easily accumulate large amounts of dust and other particulates.

Inspect Wooden Floors

Wood, while beautiful, will eventually begin to show its age. If you’ve noticed that your wooden floors have begun to appear dull, or if there are scratches on them, then you may want to call in the pros to have them completely refinished. If only a touch-up is needed, then ask them to just scuff-sand and recoat them instead.

Don’t Forget Your Computer

Your keyboard is a hotbed for all sorts of dangerous microorganisms, so you should clean and wipe down your keyboard and also remove any dust on the CPU, which can cause overheating, slow down, and possible system failure with time. The monitor or screen should also be dusted off with a soft microfiber cloth so that you can enjoy its pristine HD resolution for years to come.

If you are thinking of cleaning your home from top to bottom during the summer, then you may quickly become overwhelmed by all of the retail cleaning product options on the market today. You may also prefer to use something natural, or, at the very least, something that has ingredients that you can actually pronounce.

Natural Homemade Cleaning Products

For instance, you may decide to make the switch to homemade cleaning products that are natural so that you not only do your part for the environment, but also save money in the process. Here, we will focus primarily on natural homemade cleaning products so that you can clean your home thoroughly and safely while minimizing your carbon footprint. Or, you can also procure the services of a recurring house cleaning company if you would rather leave the cleaning to the pros while you catch some rays during the summer.

Natural Carpet Stain Remover

The supplies that you will need to make this natural homemade cleaning product are a vacuum cleaner, spray bottle, water, white vinegar, baking soda, and a nylon scrub brush. First, you will need to cover or douse the targeted area on your carpet with a copious amount of baking soda. You will then need to amalgamate a ½ and ½ mix of water and white vinegar into a spray bottle so that you will have the perfect solution mix.

Next, spray the solution over the baking soda that has been set on the carpet stain. Please note that the bubbling and foaming that will result from the spraying of the mixture onto the baking soda is perfectly safe and harmless, and, dare we say, kinda fun.

You will then need to wait a few hours so that the solution can set. The general rule of thumb is to let the solution sit for about three hours or so. Now comes the real fun, as you will need to put your trusty nylon brush to good use. That is, you will need to gently work the solution into your carpet stain with the brush.

However, please remember to not rub too hard, as doing so may damage or disturb the sensitive fibres on your carpet. Then, after you have scrubbed the problem area, you will have to wait for it to dry. We would suggest that you let it dry overnight just to be safe.

The final step involves vacuuming the carpet. When you wake up the next morning, you will likely notice a baking soda residue that is chalky in appearance and texture. To remove the chalky residue, you will need to use your vacuum cleaner. Furthermore, if there is any leftover residue after vacuuming, then you can remove it gently with a piece of clean cloth.

Natural T-Shirt Stain Remover

White t-shirts are infamous for attracting unsightly yellow stains in the underarm area. The good news is you can remove these unattractive stains with ease using many items that you probably already have lying around your home.

The supplies that you will need to form this natural t-shirt stain remover are a spoon, bucket, small container, vinegar, a towel, some water, baking soda, salt, and hydrogen peroxide. Begin by mixing 2 cups of tepid water and a cup of vinegar into your bucket. You will then need to soak the stained t-shirt into the bucket for about 30 minutes.

Next, you will need to combine a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide, a tablespoon of salt, and half a cup of baking soda together into a small bowl or container. Proceed to mix the trifecta together with a spoon until a paste forms. You will then need to coat the stain with the mixture and allow it to set for awhile. To do so, place the t-shirt over a towel so that the stains are exposed. Proceed to coat the t-shirt with the paste mixture and allow the paste to sit for roughly 30 minutes as you did with the soak.

The fourth and final step is to wash your t-shirt as you normally would by running it in your washing machine. However, after you have run the load, check the t-shirt before you throw it into your dryer. In some instances, you may notice that a few stains have managed to linger. If so, do not toss the stained shirt in with your other clothes, as the dryer will actually cause the stains to set in further. Instead, you should launder it a second time until all the stains have been eliminated, before throwing it into your dryer.

Natural Wood and Tile Floor Cleaner

While many people believe that you will need a very powerful, store-bought cleaner in order to clean their tile or wood floors, there are many natural homemade cleaning products that you can use that are just as effective and a lot cheaper too. To create a natural wood and tile floor cleaner, all you will need is a spray mop, some water, and some white vinegar. You can also use a bucket and cloth if you do not have a spray mop handy.

Begin by amalgamating a gallon of warm water and 1 cup of white vinegar. If you are working on a small zone, then you do not need to use as much, and can opt for a fraction of the mix if desired. However, given the fact that it can be stored for later use, we would suggest that you finish the job by creating the entire batch in one shot. You can also add a few drops of fragrant essential oil to the mix, as some people may be put off by the pungent smell of the vinegar.

Next, fill the reservoir of your spray mop with the solution and then proceed to spray and mop your wood or tile floors until they are sparkling like new.

Keeping your home clean can be a challenge but there are some ways to make it easier. One of those is to strategize the work you are doing.

Some household cleaning tasks need to be done daily or weekly. However, there are those jobs that only need to be done every few weeks or months. These are things like wiping the top of the fridge or vacuuming under the couch. By prioritizing what needs to be done and what can wait, you will be able to maximize your time and focus on what is really important.

Monthly Household Cleaning Routine to Follow

Here are some simple things you can do every month to keep your home clean and clutter-free.

  1. Wash the walls

Fingerprints, dark marks and regular wear and tear can leave your walls looking old. This can be particularly difficult to keep up with if you have young children. Walls can also hold bacteria that are unsafe for your family. Although it can feel like a big job, wiping down the walls every month or every two months is an important way to keep your home looking its best.

  2. Cleaning the corners

These spaces are often overlooked but dust and cobwebs can gather there and take away from the look of your home. It is important to dust your ceiling, skirting boards and cornices every month. This is a small detail that can make a big difference in the look of your home.

  3. Clean under the couch

Vacuuming under the couch and cleaning out toys or any other items that have found their way under there is something that only needs to be done every few weeks. It is okay to leave it for a month or two but any longer than that and the dust and dirt build-up will become unhealthy. This type of build up can cause problems for those who have allergies or asthma. If you have pets you may want to ensure this gets done every month. While you are doing under the couch, you could also clean the couch itself. Vacuum inside the cushions and creases.

  4. Wash the washer

Keeping your washer clean inside and out will go a long way to keeping your clothes clean and stain free. By ensuring that your machine gets cleaned, you’ll be able to prevent build-up that can damage your machine or get onto your clothes, making a bigger mess.

  5. Clean the fridge

Keeping the inside of your fridge and freezer tidy and clean is the best way to ensure your home is healthy. The task will be easier if you do it before a big shopping trip so there are fewer items to move around. It is also easy to overlook the top of the fridge, but dust and dirt do gather up there and will need to be cleaned off every few weeks.

  6. Dust hard-to-reach places

Ceiling fans and light fixtures are often overlooked for months but it is important they get cleaned regularly. Dust that accumulates in these spaces can not only compromise your air quality but can also become a safety hazard.

  7. Windows

Washing your curtains or wiping down your blinds is another one of those small details that will go a long way in creating a clean atmosphere in your home. You can also clean the window glass so that everyone can get a clear view.>

  8. The oven

The inside of your stove should be cleaned out every few months. While many people dread cleaning out the inside of an oven, you shouldn’t put it off too long. If you clean it regularly the job won’t be so overwhelming. If you have one, cleaning your microwave oven at the same time helps you save time.

  9. Cupboards

Wiping down inside your cupboards is something that does not need to be done every month but it should be done at least twice a year. Even though most cupboards have doors to keep the dust accumulation to a minimum, there will still be some dust that settles around your dishes. If you have the time, you may want to give your dishes and other chinaware a wipe down. It is also crucial that you clean and disinfect the trash area in your kitchen, even if that space is inside your bottom cupboard. Keeping it clear of bacteria and germs can ensure that your family’s space is healthy.

  10. Shower and bathtubs

Although cleaning your tub and shower wall may be part of your regular weekly cleaning routine, scrubbing the grout and washing the shower curtain may not be. If it isn’t, try making it part of your monthly schedule.

  11. Toys

If you have young children, it is a good practice to regularly clean their toys to prevent any harmful bacteria from building up. This includes wiping down plastic ones in hot, soapy water and putting any stuffed animals in the washing machine. Use warm water and a gentle cycle to prevent damage.

  12. Mattress.

Cleaning your mattresses thoroughly every few months will help you rest better knowing that your home is healthy. Start by vacuuming the mattress, then wipe it down with a damp cloth and dry it. You could also use an iron or steamer to get rid of the dust mites. Following up with a disinfectant spray is the final step to having a fully clean mattress.

Keeping your home clean and clutter-free is easier than you realize. A good tip is to try and tackle one or two of these bigger jobs every few days rather than try and get them done in a single day. Even 15 minutes a day doing some cleaning can help your home maintain a clean and healthy atmosphere.

If you are looking for some tidying up tips, then you’ve come to the right place. Marie Kondo’s new Netflix show has taken the world by storm. Launched on January 1st, 2019, it has since gone on to become one of Netflix’s most popular and talked about shows. Those looking to be inspired and become seasoned cleaning gurus should give the show a watch, as season 1 is available to binge on Netflix. Here, we will discuss some of the tidying up tips that Ms. Kondo has provided from her new hit show.

Our Favourite Tips From Tidying Up With Marie Kondo

Purge Your Clothing

Conventional wisdom would dictate that you tackle your cleaning chores by going from room to room in order to purge. However, Ms. Kondo has turned convention on its head with her new show, as she suggests that people clean by category instead of by room. Furthermore, she suggests beginning your cleaning purge by tackling your clothes first.

What she discovered was that people threw and stored their clothes in a plethora of different areas in their homes. For instance, while most people would toss or store their undergarments, shirts, pants, and dresses in conventional spaces, such as dressers and closets in their bedrooms, people would also store their clothes in storage bins, dressers, and closets that are found in conventional rooms, such as their child’s room, the basement, attic, guest room, and even the garage.

The trick, then, is to pull out all the clothes from all of the hiding spots in the house and then pile them all together in one location. By having all of the clothes in your entire home separated into one large pile you can tackle your clothing purge mission easily and far more efficiently. You will also be able to elevate your home to the next level, as you will have far more free space to work with.

Place Bags in Bags

Some critics have been unfairly hard on Ms. Kondo’s rather unorthodox way of decluttering homes, but we have found her to be supportive, gentle and even encouraging of every person’s decision in terms of how to deal with the excess clothing and other such items in their homes. Examples may include fashionable handbags, men’s ties, and even children’s worn socks.

Furthermore, while some experts would tell their clients to simply reduce clutter by picking and sorting through items, throwing out, say, some of the handbags that they use less often, Ms. Kondo suggests that women store their handbags or purses into their other purses that are big enough to accommodate them. We feel that her tidying up tips are easy to implement, and are also very pragmatic, allowing people to quickly obtain more closet space that they can use for other purposes.

Clean Those Counters

It goes without saying that most people would prefer that their kitchen counters remain clutter-free. Even homeowners who are appliance aficionados will likely confess that they would still prefer a more minimalist approach, whereby they will have access to extra storage space in which to conceal their appliances and gadgets. Still, it may seem bizarre why so many people allow for things on their kitchen counters to slowly, but surely, accumulate until they form a massive mess that can be a large eyesore. The good news is Ms. Kondo has discovered the culprit; being pressed for time.

That is, most people are very busy, and simply don’t have the time to clean their counters. With schools, kids, work, and/or having to take care of elderly parents or relatives, many people are constantly on the go. However, Ms. Kondo’s show has taught us that you can find a spot for virtually everything in your home without having to go out and spend an arm and a leg on large storing shelves or a myriad of storage bins.

Her secret is to personalize your cleaning tasks. That is, she shows some of her clients that the easiest way to purge is to determine what you truly need and what is just taking up valuable real estate unnecessarily. For instance, in one of her episodes (“From Students to Improvements”) she shows the couple featured in the episode that they simply do not need nearly 20 coffee mugs.

Many people don’t like to let go of certain items, either because they feel it would be a waste of money to simply throw them out or donate them, or because they may feel that the items have some sentimental value. However, taking the time to sort through items and accept that some of them are doing more harm than good will help make your cleaning purge work out as intended.

In sum, try and find a time, such as a long weekend, where you can sit down, plan, and get started on cleaning your home. Organize your items, declutter to some catchy music, and try and get your family to help you with your cleaning projects. Items that you actually use and value should be your number one priority and should be kept, while anything that is simply collecting dust should be recycled, thrown out, or donated to a local charity. The final step is to initiate a deep cleaning of your home so that it looks and feels like new.

Moving is stressful and, whether you are a seasoned mover or new to the game, there are many twists and turns in the process that can quickly become overwhelming. However, one thing you shouldn’t have to worry about is cleaning your old house, condo, or apartment after you are all ready and packed to move on. A quick fix to this problem is hiring a cleaning service to get the job done for you in half the time!

Why Cleaning Services are Necessary When Moving

Don’t know where to start? When it comes to move-in or move-out cleaning, Sunrise Cleaning is there to brighten your day! From a staging clean or open house clean to your move-out or move-in clean, we will be there for you to care for your needs throughout your entire moving process.

With years of experience in residential and commercial cleaning throughout Ontario, Sunrise Cleaning are the experts for you when you’re ready to move.

Selling your house?

When it’s time to sell, hire a professional cleaning service to make your home sparkle. When your home is clean, not only will it sell faster, but it is statistically proven that you will sell for more money. Polished interiors show potential buyers how much you loved and cared for your residence and it makes them want to love it too! Besides, as the saying goes, “A clean home is a happy home!”

Many realtors find it advantageous to hire a cleaning service for staging and open house showings. First impressions guarantee interest, especially when a buyer walks into a fresh smelling entryway. Make the first impression of your potential homebuyer: “I can live here”.

Why Cleaning Services are Necessary When Moving

No matter you how much pre-planning or checklists you have prepared to get your move right, at the end, you still have an ugly mess to contend with. Moving is hard work! Why not lessen the burden and hire a reputable cleaning service to finish the ugly task of cleaning carpets, dust balls, handprints, and food spills, among other things.

Here is a list of standard jobs many cleaning companies offer in terms of move-in or move-out cleaning. But, of course, if there is something not on the list, your cleaning professional will be happy to tailor to your demands. Remember, it is better to have your home empty to fully reap the benefits of the move-out clean.

Popular cleaning services include:

  • Complete bathroom and kitchen scrub down
  • Cupboards facia wiped
  • Floors washed
  • Carpets vacuumed
  • Wipe down of molding, light fixtures, baseboards, window sills, etc.

Reasons to Hire a Cleaning Service When Moving

While there are many reasons to hire a cleaning service to help make your move quick, easy, and stress-free, these are just a few to consider when deciding whether you want to go professional or do-it-yourself:

  1. Ease of mind knowing the job has been done right.

Let the experts practice their skills. Professional cleaning companies train their employees in the art of cleanliness, providing each person with extensive knowledge about cleaning products, safety, chemical storage, and sanitizing. Additionally, staff learn how to be quick and efficient, learning trade secrets.

  2. Delegate to get the job done fast.

Tacking on cleaning duties to an already busy schedule can create tension and unhappiness when moving. Why not take one thing off your to-do list and delegate the task of cleaning to a professional service? The job will get done in half the time and it is one less thing for you to worry about.

  3. Create an inviting environment and build good rapport in the real estate community (it’s common courtesy!).

Real estate agents are often left to sell and contend with homes that are jam-packed with stuff. During open houses, they try to present these homes in the best light, often failing. However, the best agents know that hiring a cleaning professional to stage an open house is money well invested. A house cleaned and staged is a house that sells faster and for above the listed price. As well, when you leave a clean home for the new owners, it reflects well on your character and how you conduct business. With a good rapport, realtors and homeowners alike will be happy to work with you for years to come.

  4. Keep focused.

Everyone loves a clean house, but no one likes to clean. There are many distractions that turn a couple of hours of housework into a whole day of work. Stop wasting time. A cleaning professional specializes in getting the cleaning done efficiently and quickly. In no time at all your home will sparkle with everything in its place. And just think, you can be distracted by other things that you enjoy more.

  5. Make your checklist.

Checklists are very important. They ensure that you get the job done in a sequential order that makes sense. Think about what cleaning jobs you want to tackle during the selling, move-out, post-move, and move-in stages, while creating a separate list of jobs for your professional cleaning company.

Make a room-to-room list of items that will need a thorough cleaning. Some areas will need more cleaning than others. Be mindful that kitchens and bathrooms will be the last to clean because they will be used throughout all stages. Don’t forget to clean ceilings, walls, cupboards, and wallboards first, leaving the floors last.

It’s best to leave the hardest jobs for the experts. Remember that moving is time-consuming and tiring. It is a continuous job for a long period of time. Hiring a reputable cleaning company will give you much needed help and will keep your spirits high. Their help will keep you focused on other aspects of the move.

Whether you are moving in, or moving out, hiring a professional cleaning service is a necessity to help you get the job done fast.

We are a locally owned and operated professional cleaning company that has been providing excellent customer service to the residents of Oakville and Mississauga for almost 20 years. Most people don’t even think about cleaning their ceilings or don’t bother to, as they may not think it is important to keep them clean. However, like any other area of the house, your ceiling also needs some tender love and care in order to look its best and brightest. In fact, your ceiling can serve as a breeding ground for harmful germs, dirt, and debris, and the problem will only increase with time. Here, we discuss some of the most important reasons why you should pay the same attention to cleaning your ceiling as you would your windows, walls, and floors.

The Importance of Cleaning Your Ceiling

Breathe Easier

Due to the fact that a typical ceiling is out of reach to the average Canadian, it is often ignored when it’s time to clean the home. However, because ceilings are often left as is, they end up becoming an ideal breeding ground for dirt, cobwebs, insects, and dust. In other words, an unclean ceiling will create the quintessential environment for contaminants and germs to accumulate.

Moreover, an unclean ceiling will eventually lead to stains, which will quickly become an eyesore to visitors and will likely help form a bad first impression of your home. As such, we would recommend that you take the time to eliminate unsightly debris from every crevice and that you properly treat stains, eliminate insects, and vigorously wipe surfaces down to help foster a healthy environment.

The end result of a clean ceiling that is devoid of bugs, dirt, dust, and cobwebs is that you and your loved ones will breathe easier, and be less prone to allergic reactions when you are home.

Safety First

Yet another advantage of cleaning your ceiling is that it will remind you to maintain the functionality of the space that you are cleaning. That is, you may be reminded to eliminate any obstructions from your fans and registers and to also check your detectors to ensure that they have not expired. Also, while you are up there, you may want to swap out any light bulbs that have died and install new batteries in your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. Moreover, if you have installed sprinklers in your home, you may want to test them to ensure that they are still working.

If you notice recurring stains on your ceiling, then they are likely indicative of a much bigger problem. For instance, such stains may be caused by a major leak. If you’re in doubt, then we would suggest that you call a professional to perform a thorough inspection of your ceiling. If they detect a problem while it is still relatively minor, you will end up saving more money in the long run.

Leave it to the Pros

Due to the logistical issues that ceiling cleaning and maintenance presents, it may be in your best interest to leave it to the professionals. For instance, you may end up using harsh cleaning chemicals that can make you sick and that do more harm than good to your ceiling. Many cleaning products on the market generate noxious fumes that can cause nausea, headaches, and dizziness.

However, by calling a professional cleaning team, they will only use the safest and effective cleaning products to ensure that your ceiling is not damaged by harmful and abrasive chemicals.

Cleaning your ceiling may also increase the risk of a fall and cause a serious injury, such as a concussion or a compound fracture. The risk of damage to its finish and/or texture is yet another issue that you should be aware of if you are thinking of cleaning the ceiling yourself.

In sum, ceilings are not resistant to grime, dirt, and dust that can cause serious respiratory problems, particularly in the young and the elderly. As such, by cleaning your ceiling, you will not only improve the health of everyone in your home but will also make it a more livable and aesthetically pleasing space.

Cleaning your ceiling will remind you to perform tasks that will not only save you money in both the short and long-term (such as inspecting for leaks) but may also save your life. This includes installing new batteries in your carbon monoxide and smoke detector, fixing defective sprinklers, and removing mould and asbestos that has formed over the years.

Tips For Spring Cleaning Your Home https://www.sunrise-cleaning.com/blog/spring-cleaning/tips-spring-cleaning-home/ https://www.sunrise-cleaning.com/blog/spring-cleaning/tips-spring-cleaning-home/#respond Thu, 14 Mar 2019 14:10:51 +0000 https://www.sunrise-cleaning.com/?p=3731 Spring cleaning, our favourite event of the year! Spring cleaning, our favourite event of the year! Spring cleaning is synonymous with doing a deep clean of your entire home, paying close attention to the spots and crevices that are usually passed over. It’s important to do a thorough cleaning regularly to maintain the condition of your home’s assets, such as floors, bannisters, window dressings and steel fixtures.

Tips For Spring Cleaning Your Home

There are so many reasons to embrace spring cleaning. It increases your productivity, cuts down on allergens in the home and improves your mood. Having a clean home is a great way to reset your focus, and puts you in the right starting place to conquer spring and summer. Take our professional tips for how to spring clean like no one’s business!

  1. Purge

Clutter does us all in. A good way to start your spring cleaning efforts is to go through your house (including closets) and collect anything you’re not using on a regular basis. If it’s not serving a purpose, let it go. Reducing your household clutter will make spring cleaning a lot easier. You’ll also find your home looks much cleaner just by getting rid of your redundant items.

  2. Start At The Top

Make sure you work top to bottom when cleaning your home. That means cleaning your ceilings, your topmost fans, your window dressings and your door frames first. When you clean high up areas, invariably some dirt will fall to the ground. It’s no problem if you clean your floors last.

To clean your walls and ceilings, mix:

    • ½ cup vinegar
    • 1 cup clean ammonia
    • ¼ cup baking soda
    • 1-gallon warm water

Dip a sponge (a mop with a sponge attachment works great) into the mixture, wring the excess moisture out and apply to your ceiling and walls. Don’t scrub too hard; you don’t want to affect the paint.

  3. Make Your Windows Shine

Nothing works on windows like a professional cleaning, but you can definitely take on the task yourself. Regular cleaning products such as Windex do wonders, but you can also fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 solution of water and white vinegar. Spray your windows thoroughly, then wipe off the solution using paper towels or newspaper.

  4. Floors

Now that you’ve worked from top to bottom, it’s time to tackle those floors. Sweeping and mopping won’t cut it for a spring cleaning.

For carpets, use a high-quality vacuum cleaner. Modern vacuums will actually eliminate allergens in the air. This is perfect if you have pets in your house, or if you or your family members have any sensitivities.

If you have wood floors, spring cleaning is a great opportunity to apply a coat of wax. This will help keep your wood floors gorgeous for years to come. Wood floors are a point of value in a home. Make sure you maintain them, whether or not you’re contemplating ever selling your home.

  5. Bathrooms

Bathrooms demand regular cleaning as it is, but spend a little extra time for spring cleaning. Wash the ceiling and walls as you did in other rooms, and clean off your shower curtain. If your shower curtain is looking extra grimy, swap it out for a new one.

Clean off all tiled surfaces with a neutral pH cleaner. Baking soda and water work well. If you have a lot of grout between tiles it’s best to call in professional cleaners. You could spend all day on that grout, but not get very far.

  6. Clean Your Broom

It might seem a bit extra to clean your cleaning tools, but brooms are magnets for dust bunnies, stray hairs and allergens. You only have to swish your broom around in a bucket of warm, soapy water, then leave it to dry.

  7. Underneath The Sheets

Your bedding gets washed regularly, but what about that mattress? Your mattress could use a good vacuuming at least once a year. If you put a mat down on top of your mattress, give it a launder.

  8. Dust All Over

Using a damp cloth (either wet with water or a polishing solution) go over all the surfaces in your home. Countertops, bookshelves, furniture legs, bed frames, banisters—anything that can collect dust, give some attention!

  9. Steel Fixtures

Stainless steel fixtures are impressive when they’re gleaming! You can use a mild soap solution, white vinegar, club soda or special steel cleaning solutions to buff and polish your metal wares. Don’t use anything abrasive, anything with particles, chlorinated cleansers, sanitizers or bleach. They could cause an adverse reaction with your lovely steel fixtures.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! You’ll feel like you’re in a brand new home after going through the ritual of spring cleaning. Your home will look better and will withstand the test of time if you give it regular, through attention. Allergens and dust bunnies will be no more, and you’ll be able to relax in an orderly home at the end of it all.

Ask a co-worker what parts of the office they think are the filthiest and most will bring up office keyboards or perhaps the bathroom door handle. However, there are are other parts of the office that are teeming with germs that you may be oblivious to. Failure to properly clean an office can lead to health issues and loss of productivity, as many workers will call in sick. Below, are some of the dirtiest places in your office and how you can sterilize them without breaking the bank…or your back.

Cleaning dirtiest places in the office

The Start Button on Your Photocopier Machine

A study conducted by Hloom—a prestigious template maker—found that the average photocopier start button had 1.2 billion colony forming units per square inch; this is in stark comparison to a typical toilet seat at a school, which only has 3,200 colony forming units. As can be seen, the start button of your photocopier machine is one of the most germ-ridden spots in the office. The good news is you can clean it by using a high-quality disinfectant solution or by affixing an antimicrobial screen onto its surface.

The Surface of Your Desk

The surface of your desk will also be laden with a ton of germs. It may appear clean to the naked eye but rest assured that there are many harmful germs spread across your desk that you may not be aware of. Many busybodies also eat and drink at their desks in order to save time and make deadlines. As such, food particles and spilled liquids can cause issues, and discarded napkins, paper cups, and utensils can also serve as hot spots for nefarious germs to spread.

Many employees also make the mistake of simply wiping their desks down with a damp cloth instead of using a high-quality cleaning solution. To properly clean the surface of your desk you should use a high-quality disinfectant solution daily. If possible, come in a few minutes early and properly clean your desk before the workday begins, and, if you have the time, do the same right before exiting the office in the evening.

Vending Machine Buttons

A vending machine may appear clean, but it is also a hotspot for germs to spread. In fact, if you checked the buttons on the vending machine under a powerful microscope you would find a myriad of harmful germs and bacteria on them. Furthermore, one of the issues with vending machine buttons is that you can’t clean them using a conventional cleaning method. However, you can purchase antimicrobial resistance screens for vending machine buttons. Then, simply clean them whenever you have the time and you will reduce the propagation of germs with minimal effort.

Your Office Keyboard

While we did mention that the office keyboard isn’t the biggest ecosystem for germs, it is still one of the biggest. Dirt and dust from your table, as well as the carpet underneath your desk, will somehow find its way onto your keyboard and set up shop. In fact, it is possible to have up to 4000 germs in every square inch of your keyboard, which can make you sick. The good news is cleaning your keyboard can be a breeze if you use the proper technique and solution. Simply wipe it down using a high-quality disinfectant solution every day and you should be able to enjoy a clean (and pleasant smelling) keyboard for your office tasks.

The Refrigerator Handle

Dozens, if not hundreds of people, will need to access the office refrigerator on a daily basis, so the handle of the refrigerator will be touched a plethora of times. As such, germs can easily spread if the handle is not cleaned thoroughly and methodically. An easy solution to this issue is to ask your coworkers to wash their hands before they open the refrigerator. Evidently, not all of your coworkers will be compliant, so the only surefire way to reduce germs is to take matters into your own hands and vigorously clean the handle, as well as the surface of the fridge, with a premium quality disinfectant solution.

The Washroom Door Knob

Another classic hotspot for germs that needs to be sterilized as soon as possible is the inner knob of the washroom door. Unfortunately, many people simply do not wash their hands after using the washroom, and even the ones that do often don’t use the proper hand cleaning techniques. As such, fecal matter, and other malevolent particulates will often attach to washroom door knobs and spread from person to person. In fact, a single washroom inner doorknob in an office can house over a million harmful microbes, so cleaning it properly should be a priority. Moreover, most experts agree that an office washroom should be cleaned five times a day, with the inner door knob being no exception. Also, if your office has cleaning staff then you should ask them to also disinfect the washroom handles while they are cleaning the washrooms.
